REAL ESTATE CAREER SKILLS ASSESSMENT

Do you think you have what it takes to become a successful real estate agent?

Real Estate isn't for everyone. It requires a unique set of skills. At Metropolitan Boston Real Estate we know a thing or two about helping people get started in real estate. Our managers have been doing it for ten years. For us, the process of preparing new agents for success begins during recruitment. If you are considering a career in real estate, take a look at the following list of characteristics we consider essential for success as a real estate agent. See if you think you're the kind of person we're looking for.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: "Every day before I leave the office, I make a list of the things I have to do the next day." Real estate is a business where rewards are in direct proportion to effort. The more organized and consistent the effort, the greater is productivity and therefore the reward.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: "I hear what you're saying." A key element of success in any sales job is the ability to identify, understand and meet a clients needs. Communication skills, especially listening skills, enable this to happen.

CONFIDENCE: "I am the Lizard King. I can do anything." Great sales associates know they have the skills necessary to help people realize their real estate goals and this confidence is communicated subtly, unconsciously to everyone around them. Customers in particular feel more secure working with a self-assured agent.

EMOTIONAL STAMINA: What part of "no" didn't you understand? In sales of any kind there is a lot of rejection. Being a successful real estate agent requires an ability to overcome resistance and maintain a positive attitude.

PHYSICAL STAMINA: "A friend in real estate told me he rolls out of bed whenever and the money just falls on him." Whatever perception you may have formed based on what you have heard or observed elsewhere, at Metropolitan Boston Real Estate renting, listing and selling property is hard work and requires a serious time commitment.

RELATIONSHIP SUPPORT: "With anyone I'm dating, I maintain an up to 15 minutes before cancellation policy." Great sales associates are supported by the confidence, trust and understanding of their loved ones. Their significant others, friends and families must have a clear knowledge of the demanding nature of a real estate career.

FINANCIAL STABILITY: "You've got to have a little money to make money." Real Estate is a commission-only business. In those first few months you need to be able to concentrate on real estate not on commissions. You may not see a commission right away so you must have savings sufficient to enable you to live comfortably during that time.

TEAM PLAYER: "No man is an island." Neither is any woman for that matter. Real estate agents are independent contractors, but they are also a part of a company team and to succeed must interact effectively with other agents and professionals.

ADAPTABILITY: "You gotta roll with the punches." Accepting change and adapting quickly is imperative in the fast-paced, ever changing world of real estate.

SERVICE ORIENTED: "The customer is always right." Great real estate agents know that client/customer service is a key to success in any business.

Are these attributes part of your personality? If so, you may be just what we're looking for. Call us at 617-425-6300 and set up a private interview.
